This is undoubtedly one of the best books I’ve read this year. Matter of fact, it’s one of the best I’ve read in several years. The author is a 24 year old ivy league kid from Brown who decided to go “undercover” as an evangelical Christian at Jerry Falwell’s Liberty University. Seeing as I spent 3 years at Liberty, myself, this book was obviously tailor made for me.
But it’s tailor made for you, too.
Roose is funny and smart and insightful and he handles both sides of the culture divide with honesty and fairness. The whole time I was reading the book I was thinking, “Seriously? This dude is only 24?”
Whether you are an evangelical or not, this book is for you. Hence the reason it is currently a Barnes and Noble Discover Great New Writers pick and a Relevant magazine best books of 2009 pick.
Go get it. Today.
I mean that.
Oh, and here’s what the very kind Mr. Roose had to say about my book:
“From Bayside High to BeyoncĂ©, Austin Carty leaves no pop culture stone unturned in this valuable book about the nature of family, the complexities of the Christian faith, and the minor tragedies of teenage life. It’s funny, irreverent, and wise. If Carty ever starts his own denomination, I am so there.”
Pretty nice of him, right? Right?
So let’s repay him for his kindness. Let’s all go buy his book.
Ready, and…
go.

In light of the fact that Argentina, perhaps the best soccer team in the world, is on the brink of not qualifying for next year’s World Cup due to the impossibly difficult qualifying group you have set forth for them, we fans of US soccer want to extend our profound thanks for the group you have provided us.
Whereas teams like Argentina face squads such as Brazil and Chile and Paraguay, we get pitted against teams like High Point Central High School and the Rochester YMCA all-stars.
For this act of generosity, we thank you. We will see you at next summer’s Cup.
Gratefully,
USA

Could you please have a sit down with your elected officials and ask them to stop making fools of us?
I mean, honestly.
First, your adulterous governor goes gallavantin’ around South America on a hook up spree, and now this Joe Wilson clown from the House of Representatives decides to interrupt Barack Obama during his healthcare speech with, “You lie.”
Really?
Now, we’re still somewhat skeptical of this healthcare plan up here, too. But there’s a time for dissent. And it ain’t while another man has the floor. Especially when that other man happens to be the President of the United States.
Listen, South Carolina, you and I talk alot about respect and honor and being southern gentlemen. And in the last few months, your elected officials haven’t really been displaying those virtues through their actions.
Please, tell them to pull it together. For both our sakes.
Respectfully,
North Carolina
