Being tone deaf, I’ve always wanted to be able to say, “I’ve been in the studio.” And, since I’ve just finished recording the audio book this morning, this is likely the one chance I’ll ever have to say it.
So, here goes:
“I’ve been in the studio the past few days recording the High Points and Lows audio book.”
Man, that felt good.
The audio book will release on January 26; same day as the regular book. Would love for those of you who prefer listening to your books over reading them to pick up/download a copy and take a listen to my southern fried vocals!
I was just told that my books are currently available for pre-order on Amazon.com for $9.45— marked down from the retail price of $14.00. I’d love for you to swoop over and grab one (or two, or three) for this low price. You can just click on the thumb to the left (the cover picture) and it will take you directly there. The book will be shipped to you on the day of release, January 26.
This morning I got a very neat endorsement for my book from the creator of this brilliant documentary. It’s called Lord, Save Us From Your Followers, and it does a fantastic job of surveying the current faith divide plaguing America. This documentary shows how, while many of us are talking (and about so many varying ideas), few us are actually trying to hear what the other is saying.
So that’s what this filmmaker (and author), Dan Merchant, does in Lord, Save Us From Your Followers. He listens. An evangelical Christian, Merchant hits the road to travel America, listening to the thoughts and opinions, the hurts and gripes, of people who believe opposite him.
Whether Christian or not, I can’t recommend this documentary highly enough.
Meanwhile, here’s what Merchant said of High Points and Lows:
“Authentic. That’s the word, authentic. Austin Carty tells the truth in his
charming and disarming new book. He tells the truth in anecdotes about
himself which is probably why his telling the truth about us, the church, is
illuminating.”
Very excited about this review which just came in today from Library Journal for High Points and Lows:
“Carty’s face is well known: he was the handsome Christian in the 2006 season of Survivor. Here, he collects a number of his essays, demonstrating a prose style and choice of subject and approach that mesh with his easygoing manner in televised appearances. He takes on drink, baseball, romance, rock ‘n’ roll, cheating (and making good for it), and evangelism. VERDICT … His charmingly casual memoirlike sermonettes aptly illustrate the condition of the young modern Christian who embraces both Hootie & the Blowfish and Jesus.”
